To say, “I’m bored” may translate to “I cannot demonstrate how smart I am”. Thus, the Autistic student often wants to demonstrate intellectual abilities. Academic success then becomes important to achieve respect and for self-esteem. The lesson is then boring for all students.Īdolescents who have autism may not be successful socially or in school sports. The style of teaching or personality of the teacher may be uninspiring, or the teacher may be depressed. Thus, the Autistic student may have completed the activity in advance of his or her peers and now has nothing to do and is bored. The teacher usually presents the activity based on the average abilities of the students in the class. The cognitive profile associated with autism can include abilities in advance of same age peers. The Autistic student may not follow such conventions and if the activity is perceived as irrelevant, it may well be boring, and the Autistic student may repeatedly express their opinion to the teacher. Typical students recognize that the activity is futile but will persevere to comply with the school’s expectations, maintain peer engagement and to pass exams. This activity is pointless and irrelevantĬomponents of the high school curriculum may not have relevance to modern life or the future of the Autistic student. A typical day at high school is mentally exhausting, hence the comment “I’m bored” means “I have no mental energy to process this activity”. I know I’ve been bored with my class but -really- I was bored of playing wow, wanting a break, wanting to do something else. Could be your play schedule and time spent (too little or too much) I guess the only other thing I could say is, it’s possible to get bored with other things external to class. I know friends who are in it for performance and max efficiency- so don’t enjoy playing low damage classes, and others who are in it for having tricks so play utility classes ^ I’d also examine how you are playing/why you are playing. ![]() If you find you don’t enjoy it, give something else a go! The best thing you can do is to play them, and not view it as time wasted if you don’t enjoy it at some point. The truth is, nobody can tell you what is normal because … playing what you enjoy isn’t a case of modulating yourself to the style/habits of the majority. Likewise, I know friends who main only one class and never get bored and other others who play -every- class in rotation. I know friends who get bored trying to level a class, others who get bored at max level doing context.
